Local Attractions
Both properties are secluded and peaceful, yet within a few strides one discovers the Nelson Arms public house - excellent carvery food from £5.99 for a real roast dinner; the CAMRA award winning Crown is a little further up the lane, a real treat for ale aficionados, with a wide range of well kept beers always on tap, with great comfort food at lunchtime. Within a short walk one discovers the village Post Office and general store, with an excellent Fish n Chip shop just a stroll away. The usual Indian & Chinese take - aways are readily available, many on a delivery basis if you prefer to enjoy an evening in without fetching your own supper. Within a mile is a very useful 24 hour service station with a surprisingly well appointed Budgen's supermarket attached. Fantastic walking opportunities from your own front door The locality is a real traveler's treat, with many interesting options to explore. Perhaps most appealing is the very wide range of walks accessible from the front doors of the properties. OS maps are provided for your use and a note of popular local (and further a field) walks are available to help you make the most of this richly varied and beautiful walking territory. Walks range from a gentle but interesting 20 minute stroll around Churchill to as demanding as you wish hikes across the glorious Mendips and beyond. Thia area is also famous for championship fly fishing at Blagdon lakes, local reservoirs and a range of very popular course fishing sites close by. Further a field Here, one's personal preferences and sense of adventure set the boundaries. The local area is blessed with a very wide range of amenities, just a few: Towns worth a day visit include:- Bristol Huge variety of attractions from the @Bristol centre and Wildwalk in the Harbourside complex; incorporating a vast 3D cinema; Industrial Heritage Museum alongside the waterfront; Georgian Clifton with its delightful shops, restaurants and surprising variety; Clifton Suspension Bridge - the Brunel marvel. There is a range of fabulous shopping opportunities in and around Bristol - check out Cabot Circus with Harvey Nichols as flagship store alongside many other top designers. A few miles up the M5 to Cribbs Causeway Mall with 7000 free car parking spaces and 250 retailers. A little further afield you’ll find the Swindon Great Western Outlet Centre and at Street there’s Clark’s Village - all well worth a visit for some retail therapy. Bath In all its Georgian splendour. Marvellous architecture including the world famous Royal Crescent. Walks with impressive views, especially the Bath Skyline Walk; The American Museum in Bath; the Pump House and Roman Baths; individual shopping; theatre & concert venues, etc Weston-Super-Mare With all of the traditional seaside attractions you would expect, from donkey rides on the sands to local theatre & cinema and some bracing promenade walking. In autumn come to see the spectacular night carnival (also in many other local towns throughout the season), or the exciting annual Weston Beach Race, now an internationally famous motorcycle event. Wells The smallest Cathedral City in the country provides a very attractive mix of quaint architecture and good shopping, including a market in the town car park which is well worth a visit. Dartmoor is accessible in but an hour's drive down the M5; Exmoor a pleasant trip across from Taunton; the Devon coastal delights of Exmouth, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Beer and Seaton are within a gentle day trip and offer a charming perspective of East Devon coastal towns. Closer still, estuarine Topsham, just a few miles south of the cathedral city of Exeter is an easy hour's drive and offers a real treat if not previously explored. For those who cannot resist a little retail therapy, Cribbs' Causeway shopping mall is within 40mins drive, the towns of Bristol and Bath both feature a very wide range of the typical and more unusual shopping temptations. Also Clark's Village outlet centre is a pleasant 45 min trip across the Somerset levels, with Swindon Outlet Centre 45 mins up the M5 and across the M4 If you are interested in dining out you will find a rich variety of local options, from the fish n chips within a few minutes' walk to the opulence and luxury of fine dining at Thornbury Castle, some 40 mins up the M5. A vast array of intermediate options feature and you will find a list of owner recommendations to help you make the most of your stay. A friendly and reliable local taxi is just across the road at Churchill Taxis (01934-853353) in the event you wish to enjoy a glass or two with your dinner out and prefer to not drive yourself.
